ABOUT MEMy name is Sterling Bristow and I will be teaching Algebra 1 and Geometry for ASPIRE at CTMS. While this will be my first year in public education, I have spent almost 3 years as a tutor for Sylvan Learning Center. While there, I directed several SAT and ACT classes and taught students from 3rd grade to College Algebra. I recently graduated from Abilene Christian University where I served as an assistant for several math classes and instructed my own Calculus 2 lab. I was honored to receive several awards at ACU, including the Valedictorian Award, University Scholar, Mathematics Chair Award, and Mathematics Education Award. My love for math is not only in the classroom, but also in competitions. In high school I won 2nd place at the State UIL Calculator competition, and at ACU I won 3rd place at the MAA Texas Calculus Bowl. I hope to bring this drive to compete to some of my students as well! I currently hold a membership with the Math Association of America and the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics. In the classroom, my goal is to challenge students to be intrinsically motivated problem solvers. I love watching students struggle with a problem, but through their perseverance and determination, solve it in the end. I believe that all my students can learn to enjoy and succeed in the math classroom. I’m excited to get this school year started at Cross Timbers!
